Main Article Content
Abstract
Oral cancer was a type of oral lesions that commonly misdiagnosed by clinicians. Misdiagnosis of such lesion can inevitably lead to inappropriate treatment decisions, potentially harming the patient and provide no benefit. Therefore, multidisciplinary approach should be carried out to ensure precise diagnosis and treatment for the patient. Our case reported a 47-year-old woman presented with a complaint of an edematous ulcer on her left cheek that persisted for six months. The patient had a history of unproper dental extraction, performed by patient itself suggesting the possibility for traumatic or infectious etiologies for the ulcer. Further history taking and physical examination revealed another clue for possible malignant lesion. The patient underwent surgical biopsy with a histopathological result confirmed a diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma. Thiscase reported using the SCARE guidelines checklist. In conclusion, due to the similar clinical presentation among oral lesion, clinician shouldalways perform multiple approach consist of history taking, physical examination, and supportive examination to ensure the precise diagnosis for the patients.
